I live in Minneapolis with my husband and our girl, Mika, a Shiba Inu and have been drawing as far back as I can remember. My most vivid memories are of drawing the turtle and the pirate from the 'can you draw me' ads in the back of Reader's Digest. This led to drawing from cartoons, and really bad cartoons too, we're talking 1970's humor. Then I discovered books about animals - enter the 'horse phase', what is it with little girls and horses? So up til now it's been a life of drawing and painting but I hadn't discovered my love of painting dog portraits until a few years ago. My niece lost her Doberman, Ka, much too soon. I wanted to do something for her to cheer her up so I decided to paint his portrait and providing I could pull it off, maybe it would make her feel better. While painting Ka's portrait, I realized, hey! this is it! And after my niece's reaction to the portrait, I knew that it had helped. So I decided to pursue more portraits and have been focusing on that ever since. I enjoy painting different subjects but dogs are where my passion lies. It's the pureness of their personalities and their unconditional love that I adore. They keep it simple. That's it in a nutshell. If you like my work and you would like a portrait done, feel free to contact me. |
